A Peaceful Crossing: Saying Goodbye to my Best Friend with Reiki

Recently, I held the paw of my best friend, Oakley, as he took his final breath. Helping him cross the rainbow bridge was one of the most heartbreaking, sacred moments of my life. My heart is hurting more than I can say, but amid the sorrow, there is deep gratitude—for the love we shared, for the bond we built, and for the peace that Reiki brought him in his final moments. He crossed over so peacefully, and I wish that kind of gentle transition for every beloved pet.
After helping my sweet boy transition, I can say without a doubt; Reiki is one of the most beautiful, compassionate tools we can offer our animal companions.

The Benefits of Reiki for Pets
Animals are naturally attuned to energy. They sense our emotions, often before we do. They respond to calm presence, to loving touch, and to energetic healing in the most honest, unfiltered way. Reiki meets them where they are, without forcing anything. It allows their bodies and spirits to relax, rebalance, and receive what they need.
It took Oakley a little time to fully receive Reiki. He was a proud boy, always on duty—his self-appointed role was to protect his family -- especially me. I think the sensation of Reiki relaxing him, especially when he wasn’t ready to let his guard down, was why he resisted at first. So I started slowly—beaming Reiki from across the room or offering a symbol above him without direct touch. Over time, he began to soften.
I believe he knew something in his body was changing. As illness crept in, Reiki seemed to ease his discomfort, and he began to receive it however I offered it—with hands on, hands off, near or far. It supported him through stressful moments—vet visits, thunderstorms, aching hips, and in his final moments, when he could no longer carry his tired frame.
Reiki can help pets and animals:
Calm anxiety and restlessness
Recover from illness or injury
Support chronic conditions and pain
Strengthen the human-animal bond
Provide comfort and grounding in unfamiliar environments
Feel safe and loved, no matter what stage of life they're in
Reiki at the End of Life
When the time came to say goodbye, Reiki became something even more powerful -- a bridge of light. As Oakley's spirit began to transition, Reiki helped ease the fear and physical discomfort. It created a space where he could be fully present, surrounded by love, supported not just by mine and dad's arms, but by the universal energy that connects us all.
When our beloved companions are preparing to cross over, Reiki becomes something even more sacred. It’s not about fixing or curing—it’s about holding space with compassion, honoring the journey, and easing the transition with love and light. Even when our heart aches.
I believe with all my heart that Oakley felt that peace. And I believe he knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, how deeply he was loved.
