Embracing the Spirit of Autumn

As the leaves turn shades of gold, amber, and crimson, we are reminded that change is both natural and beautiful. Autumn invites us into a season of reflection—an in-between space where the abundance of summer begins to soften and the quiet rest of winter approaches. Spiritually, this is a time for letting go of what no longer serves us, just as the trees release their leaves. It is a season of trust, reminding us that release creates space for renewal.
The shortening days and cooler nights call us inward, encouraging us to slow down, simplify, and reconnect with ourselves. Autumn teaches us about impermanence, balance, and gratitude—qualities that help us ground and prepare for the cycles of transformation still to come.
Walking the Labyrinth in Autumn
A labyrinth is an ancient pattern that offers a walking meditation, a path for grounding, clarity, and connection. Unlike a maze, it has no tricks or dead ends—only one path in and out. Walking a labyrinth in autumn can feel especially potent, aligning with the season’s themes of release, surrender, and turning inward.
How to Walk a Labyrinth
Set an Intention – Before stepping in, pause at the entrance. Offer a prayer, question, or word you want to carry with you.
Release on the Way In – As you walk toward the center, imagine shedding what no longer serves you, like leaves falling gently to the ground.
Receive in the Center – Stand or sit at the heart of the labyrinth. Breathe deeply. Allow clarity, peace, or insight to rise.
Return with Renewal – As you walk out, hold gratitude for what you’ve received and imagine carrying light with you into your daily life.

Autumn Labyrinth Meditation
As you step into the labyrinth, breathe in the crisp autumn air. With each step, imagine a leaf falling from a branch—symbolizing something you’re ready to release. Allow the crunch of leaves beneath your feet to anchor you in the present moment. When you reach the center, close your eyes and feel the stillness within. Whisper to yourself: “I release with love, I receive with grace.” On your way out, feel a sense of lightness, carrying only what nourishes your spirit into the next season.
Finger Labyrinth Practice
If walking isn’t possible, you can still benefit from the labyrinth by using a finger labyrinth. These are printed or drawn labyrinth designs that can be traced slowly with your finger or a pen.
Sit comfortably with your labyrinth image in front of you.
Place your finger at the entrance and begin tracing the path inward, breathing deeply and moving slowly.
As with a walking labyrinth, use the inward journey to release, the center to pause and receive, and the outward journey to return with gratitude and renewal.
Allow the simple motion of tracing to calm your mind and deepen your meditation.
This practice is especially grounding during autumn evenings when you want to invite stillness and reflection without leaving home.
Enjoy this Autumn Spice Tea
This tea blend warms the body, grounds the spirit, and supports immunity as the weather cools. It’s both comforting and healing, perfect for quiet reflection after a labyrinth walk or a Reiki session.
Ingredients:
2 cups water
1 cinnamon stick
3 thin slices of fresh ginger
3 whole cloves
1 tsp dried chamomile flowers (or 1 chamomile tea bag)
1 tsp dried orange peel (or a strip of fresh orange zest)
Honey or maple syrup to taste
Instructions:
In a small pot, bring the water, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves to a boil.
Reduce to a simmer for 10 minutes, allowing the spices to infuse.
Add chamomile and orange peel, cover, and steep for 5 minutes.
Strain into a mug and sweeten with honey or maple syrup.

Sip slowly, allowing the warmth to soothe you from the inside out. This tea supports digestion, eases stress, and enhances your body’s natural resilience during seasonal transitions. This is a great meditation and journaling tea, or just sitting in your favorite spot tea.
